District Fire Engine 2 taken out of service; permanently
The Seneca Area Fire Protection District
Board held an emergency meeting May 31 at District station one in Racine
to discuss problems with Engine 2 (the class A Engine housed at station
two (Dessa)).
President Roy Lankford called the
meeting to order at 6:00 PM, May 31, 2007 all board members, Chief
Bruce Jeffers and Deputy Chief Kyle Bridges were present.
The emergency meeting was called to discuss the status of
Engine two. According to board member Dave Zumwalt Engine two's
transmission has went out and will cost the Seneca Area Fire District
several thousand dollars to replace. This Engine has in the past few years
cost the District thousands of dollars due to mechanical failures. Zumwalt
stated the the engine has become a massive liability to the department due
to the age of the truck. This engine is 23 years old. The engine is at the end of it's
service life and will continue to cost excessive amounts of money to keep
it operational.
The Board discussed the finances of the department and
decided that they would not be good stewards of the tax payers money if
they continue to spend excessive amounts of money on this engine. Therefore
the board unanimously voted to take this engine out of service permanently
and the officer staff agreed.
The Board and Officer Staff will continue to research other
available means of funding to purchase a engine to replace Engine two.
The meeting adjourned at 7:00 PM.
